Gertrude's Leg

Here is a photo showing the damage that Gertrude sustained to her left front leg when living with our two other axolotls (Pinkie and Aurora). Apparently, one of them decided to have it for lunch.

The good news is that the area is healing as well as beginning to regenerate. Hopefully, it will become a complete limb again. Those axolotl toes are very cute.

It's quite fascinating to watch the axolotls move. Their legs are disproportionately small to their body--yet they can walk around the tank quite well. The tadpole-like tail enables them to be very good swimmers as well.
