Gertrude's Tank

Here is Gertrude's home which is a 20 gallon hex tank with a Tetra Water Wonder filter. It's with some trepidation that I show another tank online. Hopefully, the "axolotl police" won't come after me. *VBG*

Gertrude is under the pink arrow and her reflection in the glass to the right. The tank appears to be well lit from the camera flash but the back half is actually quite dark. That rock crevice is Gertrude's "bed" and where she tends to hang out when she's not eating or swimming around.

The filter is housed inside the rock bridge ornament. I specifically chose this aparatus as the intake is safely enclosed and nothing can be "sucked up" except water. This is something to consider when one has something small living in the tank. Additionally, it has a side slot for a heater. Keeping water cool is more of an issue for the axolotl. If need be, some bagged ice or a bagged ice pack could be inserted into this slot. I don't see it being an issue so long as the AC holds out.

An interesting sidenote--Gertrude seems to almost always swim counterclockwise around her tank. Even when food is present; she goes around the back of the rock ornament to reach the front of the tank. It would be quicker to reach the food by going clockwise. Who can figure? Of course, any food must be "pounced" upon and then devoured in true axolotl style.

I think that she missed Manners 101 . . .
