Gertrude grows a New FOOT!!

(Click photo for enlargement.)

Gertrude lost her left front foot and part of the leg due to the over zealous eating habits of her fellow axolotls. We noticed on May 9 and they were each put in a separate tank.

Here is the link to the blog post showing the leg stub.
Gertrude's Injury

Today the leg bud that had been growing back now has tiny toes! It's been amazing to watch how quickly that these creatures increase in size and witness their amazing ability to regenerate limbs.

The above photo shows both limbs and while the left is still a bit smaller than the right, it is now fully formed. In addition to limbs, the axolotl can also regenerate tails as well as brain and spinal tissue.

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works; and my soul knoweth right well."

Psalm 139:14
